Getting your trades business ready for the spring rush

For a lot of trades, the phone goes quiet over winter and then everyone wants a job doing at once. The quiet months are the best time to get your marketing ready, so you're first in line when the busy season starts.

1. Update your photos from last year's jobs

Go through your phone and pick out the best finished jobs and before-and-afters from the past year. Add them to your website and Google Business Profile now, while you've got time to choose properly. If you're not sure which shots matter, start with 5 photos every tradesperson should have on their website.

2. Ask last year's customers for reviews

Reviews help you show up in local search, and customers from the busy months are easy to forget. Send a short message with your review link to anyone who was happy with the work.

3. Check your Google Business Profile

Make sure your hours, services, service area and phone number are all correct, and add special opening hours for bank holidays. Our guide on how to set up a Google Business Profile that gets calls walks through it step by step.

4. Test your website like a customer would

Call now
Phone number is one tap to call
Contact form sends to your inbox
Homepage loads quickly on mobile data
Services and areas are up to date
Test your site on a phone, the way customers see it.
  • Open it on your phone, not your laptop.
  • Tap your phone number. Does it actually ring?
  • Send yourself a test enquiry through the contact form.
  • See how quickly the homepage loads on mobile data.
  • Check your services and the areas you cover are still accurate.
If a customer can't find your number quickly on their phone, they'll ring the next result.

5. Plan a few weeks of posts in advance

When you're busy, social media is the first thing that stops. Write and schedule a few weeks of posts now, covering recent jobs, useful tips and seasonal reminders for your trade, so your pages stay active when you're flat out.

6. Book your photo or drone session for better weather

Aerial shots of finished jobs and your premises look best on a clear day. Book a session in advance for early spring, so you've got fresh content just as people start searching.
